Businesses
Some people believed alcohol caused violence and contributed problems to the poor. Alocohol was and is a major part of the Louisiana culture. At many restaurant it was common to serve alcohol. When Prohibition hit Louisiana, businesses began to fail.
Illegal Businesses
Alcohol became more popular after it was made illegal. Rumrunning, bootleging, and speakeasies were a normal bussiness at the time. In 1924, Louisiana was considered 90% 'wet' and in 1926 New Orleans was deemed the 'wettest' city in the United States. This was due to the fact the city was a major port and had first dibs on imported alcohol.
Jazz
Many jazz muscians found work in the clubs. The muscicians made friends with the gangsters, since the jazz players were bringing in people. With jazz being played in the speakeasies and being associated with the gangers made jazz cool. As time goes and jazz is still in speakeasies the popularity of the music increases.
